Updated: Apr 27, 2020

This was our first seminar presentation. The team (Harshad, Chenxi and Ryan) explained the impact of technology in our daily life. The seminar was divided into three segments. The first segment focused on the modern-day technologies that are available at our fingertip. A detailed walkthrough of its evolution in human lifestyle and experience were covered. The second segment was focused mainly on the modern revolution of mobile phones and how it turned out to be a necessity I human life and soon turned out to be an addictive source. This session covered through digital detoxing strategies. The final segment covered the impact of social media and how it has grown over time influencing the major population of the world.

Workshop

We were divided into a team of 4 and given a task for solving a problem for a particular persona. In our design brief, we were given a persona with a certain problem. Our persona was Asuka around 27 years of age-independent living office worker women. She was affected personally by the problem of a tracking mania on her way form office daily. We were asked to prevent this situation from escalating by designing a product to keep her safe. This product should have to be a wearable device.

During the brainstorming session team came up with a wide lot of ideas like handbags with certain technology, shoes which can be used to prevent an attack from men etc. Later on we came up with an idea for a wearable product along with a system or service for solving the issue of women safety in urban cities.

Design: The product was a smart earing with sensors which indicates alert to a service called ‘Firepoint’ which is a women protection service. Everyone who volunteers for women safety can be a member of this service by instaling an application. Once if an attack is about to happen and women press the button or sensor in the earing, it gives alert to the nearby member of the team who can take action on that incident and on long-press it gives an alarm. Once the alarm is not turned off it then triggers an accidental alert to the nearest police thereby initiating an immediate response towards this issue.

Overall the activity was kind of interesting and we enjoyed the presentation and every team developed interesting products based on their persona.
